LaLa Lunchbox

March 31, 2014  •

LaLa Lunchbox is a meal planning app for kids and parents that takes the stress out of lunch planning for families and empowers kids with their meal decisions. Kids select foods for their meals with fun monsters, colors and sounds (and a completely customizable Food Library) and those choices turn into a handy grocery list for parents. No more lunchbox arguments in the morning or uneaten, wasted food at the end of the day!

Studies have shown that when kids are involved in their food selection, they are empowered to choose more variety and waste less, which means a more balanced diet and grocery money better spent. Created by Gillian Fein, whose MBA and background in the healthcare industry combined with her hands-on experience as a mom of three young children informed the design of the app, LaLa Lunchbox teaches children about smart food choices and helps picky eaters broaden their horizons.

“Getting everyone out the door in the morning is often hard enough,” says Gillian. “Dealing with the ‘what’s for lunch?’ question/argument at the last minute was not going to work in my house. I created a system that became LaLa Lunchbox: Every weekend, my daughter picked out what she wanted me to pack in her lunchbox for the coming week. Every lunch had a fruit, a vegetable, a protein and a snack. We shopped from that list so that everything was on hand for the week ahead. That system evolved into the mobile, educational experience that is now LaLa Lunchbox. She loves having the freedom to choose. I’m happy to oblige.”
