WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE DISH TO MAKE WITH YOUR KIDS AS HELPERS?

Sugar Cookies

HOW DO THEY HELP?

Julian is only two years old, but he has been helping his Papa bake for the holidays since he could sit up for himself. He puts the ingredients in the mixing bowl and helps stir or beat the batter. One of his favorite thing to do is to crack the eggs. And of course, to lick the beaters!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE DISH YOU REMEMBER EATING AS A CHILD?

"Wax on Snow"

DO YOU HAVE THE RECIPE?

Yes, I’d love to share it!

INGREDIENTS:

  • Fresh fallen snow
  • Pure maple syrup

DIRECTIONS:

Pack a large pan (9 x 13 inches) with freshly fallen snow. Be sure to pack it as tight as you can. Next, cook the maple syrup in a sauce pan until it begins to firm up like candle wax. Slowly pour the syrup over the snow and dig in with a fork to enjoy.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CHILDHOOD MEMORY INVOLVING COOKING AND EATING TOGETHER WITH YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS?

Cooking and baking for the holidays with my mother and being able to taste the special treats. We came from a farm family and this was very special to us as kids. Our idea of a snack was popcorn on Sunday nights!

WHAT TIPS OR ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR SOMEONE WHO IS NEW TO THE KITCHEN OR JUST GETTING THEIR KIDS INVOLVED IN THE KITCHEN?

Don't worry about the mess. Just enjoy them while they are young. Remember, the most important ingredient in every recipe is love!
