WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE DISH TO MAKE WITH YOUR KIDS AS HELPERS?

Chicken Tacos

HOW DO THEY HELP?

Everyone in the family enjoys taco night, because everyone gets to help make it. Dad makes his famous homeade salsa and cuts up the veggies, I season and grill the chicken and Kaylie and Preston put everything into separate bowls and line them up on the table. Everybody gets to put together their own tacos just the way they like 'em.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE DISH YOU REMEMBER EATING AS A CHILD?

Mom's French Bread Pizzas

DO YOU HAVE THE RECIPE?

Yes, I’d love to share it!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 loaf of French bread
  • 1 jar or 2 cups of pasta or pizza sauce
  • 1 bag of grated pizza cheese (found in the grocery store near the cheeses)
  • Any additional toppings you like (we like pepperoni or Canadian bacon and pineapple)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Cut the loaf of bread in half lengthwise.
  3. Spread the sauce all over the insides of the bread slices and cover with cheese and toppings.
  4. Place each loaf half on a cookie sheet, pop in the oven and cook until cheese melts.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CHILDHOOD MEMORY INVOLVING COOKING AND EATING TOGETHER WITH YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS?

I remember baking with my great-grandmother, grandmother and mother. We would bake my great-grandmother's bread recipe. Since then, several family members have taken that recipe and modified it and have continued to make it for special occasions, long after my great-grandmother passed away. It's like a living and growing recipe that gets better with age and will never die.

WHAT TIPS OR ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR SOMEONE WHO IS NEW TO THE KITCHEN OR JUST GETTING THEIR KIDS INVOLVED IN THE KITCHEN?

Try everything at least once. You never know what your kids might like. We found out that ours like shark. Who knew?!
