HealthBarn USA
HealthBarn USA offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity for children to work on a farm, grow and harvest fruits and vegetables and learn about nutrition by experiencing fresh, locally-grown food.
Their authentic farm provides a natural environment to engage children and help them adopt healthy behaviors. Weekly parent workshops give parents the skills necessary to support healthy living at home.
The unique, hands-on curriculum is designed to reflect the needs of children and their families and was developed in collaboration with Dr. Debra Palmer Keenan and her research team from the nutrition sciences department at Rutgers Cooperative Research and Extension at Cook College, along with Joel Flagler and his team of master gardeners at Rutgers Cooperative Research and Extension of Bergen County, a part of the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station.
Says founder Stacey Antine, “I wanted kids to get excited about an apple they way they do about soda…and they do!”
In addition to seasonal programs, HealthBarn USA offers programs for school assemblies, school group and scout group field trips, as well as adult healthy-lifestyle education courses. Visit their website to learn more!
